AMP wins CTC Australasia Corporate Travel Sustainability Programme of the Year 2023

AMP, the Australian wealth management organisation, was recognised for the sustainability credentials of its corporate travel programme at CTC – Corporate Travel Community’s Australasia Corporate Travel Summit & Awards in Sydney.

With a history spanning 174 years and more than 4,000 staff around the world, AMP is a financial services company in Australia and New Zealand providing superannuation and investment products, financial advice, and banking products including home loans and savings accounts. Its divisions include AMP Capital, among the top ten infrastructure managers globally and one of the largest real estate managers in Asia, AMP Financial Services and Axa Asia Pacific.

The Sydney-headquartered company was presented the CTC Australasia Corporate Travel Sustainability Programme of the Year 2023 award as part of the agenda on the first day of the Nov-2023 event at the Sofitel Wentworth, which focussed heavily on sustainability.

Dr Benson Tang, executive director of CTC – Corporate Travel Community presented the award to AMP, Senior Commercial Manager, Tanaz Pochkhanawalla.

Sustainability and following principles of environmental, social and governance (ESG) best practice is has, like many business, become paramount to AMP. To ensure success, strategies are implemented in a top-down manner, flowing from the most senior levels of the business, it says.

The AMP Limited Board and Board Risk and Compliance Committee oversee management of sustainability-related issues for AMP shareholders and delegates responsibility for management of impacts to the CEO.

The CEO and Executive Committee manage and monitor AMP’s material sustainability framework through the Group Risk and Compliance Committee, constituting all members of the Executive Committee. These committees and the Board review the outcomes of the sustainability materiality review and publish them every year in an annual sustainability report.

The broader framework incorporates areas such social enterprise, ethical procurement, modern day slavery and the environment.

AMP incorporates all these values into its travel programme across the broader supply chain. The Travel Department utilises the TMC as the focal point.

With sustainability a key focus at AMP, it is incorporated into daily working lives. This ranges from simple elements such as renewable energy and the new AMP building based in 50 Bridge Street winning sustainable awards on a global scale, all the way to the RAP programme and ensuring the supply chain to include travel are also incorporating the values into their services.

Over the course of the last ten years, AMP has reported on carbon emissions using data from our TMC’s. This has been followed by an off-setting carbon emissions programme.

On top of environment friendly initiatives, sustainability comprises other aspects. AMP had already incorporated the Modern Day Slavery Act (2019) alongside the International Labour Principles into all contractual engagements to include travel contracts (both TMCs and airlines). All staff at AMP undergo training for the RAP and there is increased awareness around the various components of sustainability across the organisation.

As part of AMP’s commitment to support the financial wellbeing of Australians, the AMP Foundation, AMP’s independently funded philanthropic arm, has invested more than AUD110 million to help organisations and individuals bring about positive change since its inception in 1992.

CTC – Corporate Travel Community’s Australasia Corporate Travel Summit & Awards is part of a series of summits across the Asia Pacific Region focusing on the deep-dive discussion of pain-points of travel managers using CTC’s new “Corporate Branches” format.

The two-day summit gathered important corporate travel executives from some of the biggest firms in Australia, as well as many SMEs in the region for education and networking, sharing the latest developments, best practices and trend analysis to help guide the industry in its evolution.
